Surrounded by hillocks and forest, home to the Madia Gond tribe, that is a place called Dantewada in southern Chhattisgarh. The district has a pristine environment, beautiful diversity of indigenous seeds and crops, and most of the farmers still do farming without any chemicals. From the last six years, we have been working towards conserving this diversity, promoting the practices of sustainable and Organic cultivation among the farmers and helping them connect to the market.
To support these efforts in a robust manner through a scientific approach of agro-ecology and systematic work on conservation, characterization of traditional crops, an autonomous semi-government body, Center for Organic Farming and Bio-diversity Conservation, is being set up in Dantewada. This centre among many other things will primarily focus on :
1. Training and capacity building of farmers, local youth, women SHGs in the field of Agro-ecology
2. Adaptation and, localization of various techniques of Sustainable Agriculture
3. Conservation, promotion, characterization of agricultural biodiversity of all sorts and wild food through systematic work and engagement with the community
For various positions under this centre, we are looking for self-driven individuals passionate about organic farming, agro-ecology and traditional seeds, having their own vision and willing to spend a few years in Dantewada.
