The Evergreen School in Suru valley, Kargil, Ladakh is a sanctuary built on passion and love. A small middle school that started 18 years ago as a dream of providing equal access to education and cultural experiences to children. The school is run by local donations, travelling volunteers and curious hardworking children.
The academic session opens in March and continues till November.
Travelling Educators
This coming year, the School need about five volunteers primarily for English, Science and Maths. The school covers food and lodging for the entire stay of the volunteers.
(Minimum commitment six months)
Evergreen Mountain Library
Need for two volunteers who work as Librarians. Interested in storytelling, dramatization, musical theatre and basic book cataloging. Someone who can also help sustain short english reading fluency programmes for young readers.
(Minimum commitment four months)
The aim is to start at the school level and open it out to the community, as a space that encourages curriculum build around reading and art based programs for engagement between school going children and also within the community at large. The vision is to create a thought provoking space where opinions, ideas and expressions can be nourished to create a mindful way of understanding life. The library is on a lookout for resources to build a sustainable infrastructure, travelling educators who could work with the library to design workshops and curriculum and individual donors who could start and sustain small grants and funds for the library.
