Bhavyata Foundation in association with Nimyth presents second in the ‘India First Nation Building’ Series - Dissemination of Untold Indian History
THE INVINCIBLE BRAHMAPUTRA
A talk on India’s Forgotten Hero from Assam: Lachit Borphukhan
Historians may have neglected Assam but history has not. History text books give details of the Indus Valley civilisation, the Ganges Valley civilisation and the Mughals, the British etc, but they hardly mention the Brahmaputra Valley civilisation, when the history of Assam is unique.
Rather, noteworthy to mention that Assam was the only State in India, which defeated 17 successive attempts at invasion by the Delhi Sultans and the Mughal Emperors, which are a reminder of the preservation of freedom of thought and culture of Bharat. The very name Assam, with its roots in the word Asama or invincible, denotes how this land held its own, through most of India’s medieval history. Ruled by the powerful Ahoms for 600 years from the mid 13th century, the Mughals couldn’t touch Assam. In fact, it was here that they suffered their most embarrassing defeat in the year was 1671 in the decisive battle of Saraighat, which was fought on the raging waters of the Brahmaputra.
India is a land of many heroes; yet the irony of the fact remains; several unsung heroes have either been forgotten with time or completely left out of history. One such unsung hero is Lachit Borphukan, the Assamese commander who defeated the huge Mughal armies of Aurangzeb.
Catch up with scintillating presentation of this most historic battle, as Aneesh Gokhale reveals grappling narration of sequences in moment of history.
