FREND (Foundation for Rural Entrepreneurship Development) is a non-profit organization supported by Tata Trusts and Google, with a mission “To create a reliable network of technologically empowered individuals for socio-economic uplift of women in Rural India”. The foundation has been created as an extension of the Internet Saathi initiative, which was focused on facilitating digital literacy among women in Rural India and thereby bridging one of the largest online gender divide.
Since its launch, the Internet Saathi initiative has covered over 2.9 Lakh villages and has benefited over 34 million women in rural India through a network of rural women called Internet Saathis. FREND aims to aid a continued source of technologically enabled livelihood opportunities for these Internet Saathis, thereby continuing to benefit rural communities.
Project Saksham: Tata Trusts has partnered with CISCO to implement Project Saksham aimed to create 3,500 rural women entrepreneurs in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The project intends to address two key levers for entrepreneurship, one, access to opportunity and two, access to basic entrepreneurial skills. The project aims to aid the women in setting up nano enterprises that will take them closer to their objective of financial self-sufficiency. FREND has been mandated to implement the project on behalf of TATA Trusts and CISCO.
As a District Transformation Officer (DTO) for FREND, you will be responsible for the execution of project “Saksham”. You will be at the forefront of working towards upliftment of women in rural communities, with technology and philanthropy at the core of it. You will be required to lead a team of coordinators and Internet Saathis to motivate and enable rural women as they embark on their journey in entrepreneurship.
You will need to ensure that the Internet Saathis are provided with the right kind of training. You should be comfortable with travelling to remote areas in the district, using a smartphone, and you are expected to be well-versed with using the internet and MS Office.
Responsibilities:
- Program management - setting and monitoring program goals, targets, and responsibilities - Team management (6 coordinators and 500 entrepreneurs) - Imparting skills training as a Master Trainer for the implementation team & Internet Saathis - Be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on entrepreneurship in the district - Liaising with district level government officials - Mentoring select high potential women entrepreneurs - On boarding, orientation, and training of team at district - Ensuring month on month targets and milestones are met - Ensuring high quality of output by field visits, review meetings & periodic reviews - Ensuring budget utilization is timely, and as per set norms - Day to day technical/non-technical troubleshooting - Creating forum to discuss issues and promote healthy participation of Saathis and beneficiaries through a WhatsApp group
Preferred Candidate:
● Post graduate (PG) ● Age between 25 to 30 ● 2 to 3 years of work experience (Between Graduation and PG or after PG) ● Experience in social sector OR rural startup sector ● Entrepreneurial spirit and ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment ● Strong MS Excel skills ● Prior stakeholder management experience (government/private/development sector) ● Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and impeccable business judgment ● Must know local language (Hindi - Read/Write/Speak) ● Willing to travel extensively in the district ● Must be result oriented ● Proven track record of leading a team
Location: Uttar Pradesh (4 positions) / Bihar (2 positions)
Note: The posting will be at the district headquarters
CTC: 6 Lakhs per annum (90% Fixed and 10% Variable on performance). Travel for work will be reimbursed extra as per FREND travel policy plus medical benefits as per FREND medical policy.
