The new year has brought many new things to Indian School of Democracy. A renewed vigour to keep forging on the path of transforming public leadership and many new ideas for ways in which we can influence the political ecosystem. We proudly present ‘She Represents’ शक्ति है, सक्षम à¤ी, a 9 days, all women, immersive residential learning experience for aspiring women public leaders.
Program dates: 4-12 July, 2020 in Delhi, NCR
Final Deadline: 30 April 2020
This learning space provides:
- practice based hard skill modules, addressing key needs for political aspirants
- opportunity to immerse in the system, and understand the ground realities
- building ground for deep inner work, to begin and sustain the path of principled leadership
- exposure to elected women leaders in the system, to identify opportunities and challenges
- community of strong and path breaking women, to sustain their journey forward
ISD envisions a gender equal/inclusive world and the Indian political space is one of the most gender adverse spaces. According to the WEF Gender Gap report 2012, India ranks 20th from the bottom in terms of women’s representation in Active politics. We currently have 14% women representation in Lok Sabha, 10.4% in Rajya Sabha. The national average for state assemblies was even lower at 9%, in 2018. We need to get more women into the system. Research also claims that all-women communities can encourage and support each other’s leadership journeys more than mixed communities. Women speak and support in a different language and hence such spaces are immensely valuable.
Indian School of Democracy wants to create a focused nurturing space for our aspiring women leaders at She Represents. www.indianschoolofdemocracy. org/sherepresents
Our final round of applications closes on the 30 April 2020
More details and the application link are here: indianschoolofdemocracy.org/ sherepresents
Who is it for? 30 inspiring women leaders with demonstrated commitment to public service. They could be active political workers, changemakers, university students involved in ground action or full-time professionals across the country who are committed to walking the path of political leadership. The age group is 18-50 years old.
We aim to curate a diverse cohort from across the political spectrum in the country, with equitable representation from all regions, religions, class, caste, linguistic and economic backgrounds. We want to create more opportunities for minority and disadvantaged groups and hence actively seek applications from such backgrounds.
About Indian School of Democracy (ISD): ISD's mission is to nurture principled leaders with moral courage and imagination, to work on strengthening four pillars of Indian democracy - legislative, executive, judiciary and media. The end goal is to make democracy work for all citizens. Starting August 2021, ISD will organize long term programs to do this for young leaders aged 25-40, across the geographical, political and ideological spectrum. The focus will be on cultivating i) hard skills for public service ii) spaces of inner transformation iii) community of public leaders.
ISD is conducting short term programs with youth leaders across India in this research phase. ‘She Represents’ शक्ति है, सक्षम à¤ी, is our second program. Previously, we hosted Democracy Express - राजनीति से लोकनीति, in December, 2019. Find highlights here
We appreciate your patience through this long email and look forward to your thoughts and feedback. Please circulate this message in your circles and recommend participants who you believe would derive learning from this space and may have the next generation of principled public leadership for India.
Gratitude,
ISD Team
