I hope this mail finds you in good health. I am Swati Gupta, a Yatri, and currently working in the Gandhi Fellowship Program Team.
Piramal Foundation for Education Leadership and Kaivalya Education Foundation holds Gandhi Fellowship under their aegis. We are an 11-year-old organization, functioning in 14 states and 42 districts, including 25 aspirational districts-as per NITI Aayog.
Our resolve is to work with select innovative organizations and supply a rare, young, change management talent – the Gandhi Fellow. We also look forward to creating long term partnerships in a different aspect to bring each other’s expertise in a shared platform.
As you may be aware, Gandhi Fellowship is a full-time, residential, two-year Leadership Program that selects the best from among the inspired and inventive young people from across India to help them develop into Tomorrow’s Leaders, through a 4-semester practical, grassroots experience.
These young women and men, mostly from middle India are recruited into the Fellowship from Top Colleges of the country because they are exploring to live life differently. They had the ear to listen to their inner voice and the strength to stand apart. They influenced their families and chose the unconventional route to the Fellowship. Each Fellow works with 5 Government School Headmasters and Government Officials in implementing school change, solving real problems. This equips them to confidently negotiate life and prepares them to make informed career choices. Armed with conviction and a clearly articulated sense of purpose, they embark on their future journey to confront the problems of a burgeoning new India, and the larger humanity.
The Fellowship is not exclusive to any particular social profile of students. The current batch of Fellows comes from a mix of district colleges, state universities and upper-crust private institutes from streams such as Engineering, Humanities, Science, Business, Education, Social Work, and Media. It is not an English-only cohort – we are a diversity that is India.
The two years at the Fellowship hold for the young people transformational experiences to:
- Augment their career choices in alignment with nation-building opportunities;
- Help them innovate and deploy bottom-of-the-pyramid solutions;
- Sensitize them to the problems facing India; and
- Help develop active, sensitized citizenship.
Through the Fellowship the attempt is to harness their energy toward the next big change ideas – be it education, health, environment, democracy or social equity. We want them to explore the thrill of becoming adventurers, thinkers, inventors, and leaders – optimistic, team-players willing to gently strike at grassroots change – a change that begins with the Self.
900+ Fellows from 10 batches have graduated so far and some of them are already taking the lead with NGOs, Government, CSRs besides setting up their own social enterprises.
